Just as we promised (and/or threatened), Anime Was (Not) A Mistake is finally heading to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars, now subtitled Episode IV - A New Hope, is the legendary film that launched a (mostly) beloved franchise. Pursued by the Galactic Empire, Princess Leia sends the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO on a vital mission. They must find the famed Obi-Wan Kenobi and deliver the secret Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance. The Death Star itself is a monstrous battle station capable of obliterating entire planets. Fated to undertake this quest is the young Luke Skywalker, who goes from a naïve farm boy to a Rebel pilot and a fledgling Jedi Knight. Rounding out the cast is the cynical smuggler Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca. This unlikely band of heroes will have to escape the Death Star, outmaneuver TIE Fighters, and make it back to the Alliance before the rebellion is extinguished. They are opposed by the cold and calculating Grand Moff Tarkin and the mysterious Darth Vader. Vader, the fallen Jedi responsible for destroying the order, still has unfinished business with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Everything leads to one of the most iconic outer-space dogfights in film history as a the Rebels launch their assault. Try to practice proper lightsaber usage, drink plenty of blue milk, and remember to check your motivator for today's exciting installment of Good Movie Podcast!

Sunday Jan 21, 2024
Sunday Jan 21, 2024
On this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake we return to our Studio Ghibli roots and raise the curtain on a new stage. That's right, we are heading back to the bathhouse with Spirited Away: Live on Stage. We embark on a young girl's journey to traverse the spirit world with a cast of eclectic characters. Only this time through a different medium. Will sets, props, costumes, song, and dance lend itself to this iconic animated film? I'm not willing to sign my name away on it, but if the Radish Spirit is to be believed than we will all be giving this one a standing ovation.

Sunday Jan 14, 2024
With today's episode, 30 installments of Sinister Six have come and gone. To celebrate this special occasion, we'll be taking a look back at some of our favorite terrible movies. After that, fate selects 1990's Dick Tracy as the 30th sinister feature. A passion project for director, producer, and star Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy adapts the classic 1930s comic strip of the same name. In a larger-than-life city, organized crime is running rampant. Boss "Big Boy" Caprice is forcibly bringing other mafia families under his control, intending to run the city's underworld like a villainous corporation. Dick Tracy is hot on Big Boy's trail, but finding charges that will stick is no easy feat. Tracy is joined by his girlfriend Tess Trueheart and an unnamed Kid with a penchant for thieving. Complicating things are the sultry singer Breathless Mahoney and a faceless assassin who keeps to the shadows. Will Dick Tracy be able to outfox Big Boy, save the city, and maybe even get the girl? Load your tommy gun and bake plenty of blueberry muffins for today's especially-sinister episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

So, you little Italian devils, you want to know about podcasting? In a cinematic move, Jonathan has decided that he is going to direct Dan's descent further into madness with a mix of pleasure and pain. Many thought it should never happen, but life is fleeting. Tonight, in a Good Movie/Sinister Six New Year's Double Feature are two films, the same story, but vastly different in execution/style. First on the bill, is a classic with Federico Fellini's sensationalized auto-biographical opus, 8 1/2 (1963). When Guido is at his wits end how will he survive his own multiplicity as director, man, husband, womanizer, and young boy? The women around him are done with these games and a deadline is fast approaching. He can only soft shoe around these issues for so long in this gem of Cinema Italiano. Next, if Dan survives, is the musical adaptation of the same material with Rob Marshall's Nine (2009). Now Jonathan lives for musical theater, and this is one of his favorites, but how when director, actors, production design and more align can this still be considered a Sinister Six pick? What could possibly go wrong? Well, that's show business, kid. You will have to use your own eyes and ears to judge. So, take a seat at the Folies Bergère. Pour yourself a drink. Light a cigarette. Reminisce and Remember, with your sunglasses on in the dead of night.

Dan, Jonathan, Gabe, Grant and Heather settle in for a pairing of "classic" holiday movies. First, we reach our peak in the Rankin Bass universe with 1977's The Hobbit. Highlights include babysitting bumbling dwarves, soaring on the wings of eagles, slaying spiders, and one magic ring. Gandalf recommends resting where the thrush knocks and not getting trapped in a wine barrel rolling down the river. Next, on the marquee is a return to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). In hopes of a lifetime supply of chocolate and a magical factory tour five children receive a golden ticket and jump at the chance! Our podcasting family have a lot of opinions on different candies, how much it would actually take us to go on a tour of a factory and what goes into making a "Wonky" bar. There's no earthly way of knowing, if we are coming or going. All we are certain of is that this is a holiday adventure that you will want to devour, bones and all!
