The war between Midland and the Tudor Empire rages on as we watch the next four episodes of Berserk. With each victory, Griffith and his Band of the Hawk receive more respect and adoration. While the King entrusts the Band of the Hawk with one mission after another, others in his court grow suspicious of the group. Guts and Griffith face their greatest challenge yet when Nosferatu Zodd, a seemingly immortal demonic entity, enters the fray on the side of the Tudors. Outmatched in terms of pure strength, the two warriors are only spared when Zodd notices Griffith's Crimson Behelit. He leaves Guts with a grave warning: when Griffith's ambition crumbles, Guts will meet his death. Such a crisis might be approaching faster than anyone realizes, with the Midland nobles conspiring to kill Griffith from the shadows. Make sure that you've properly picked your poison and donned some whale-themed armor for today's exciting episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Episode 257: Berserk (1997)
Sunday Apr 14, 2024
Sunday Apr 14, 2024
Despair and destruction follow any podcast that bears the Brand of Sacrifice. Berserk (1997) was the first anime adaptation of Kentarou Miura's legendary work. While numerous changes and omissions were made in order to condense Berserk's first two arcs into a 25-episode season, this anime is still remembered fondly. The story follows Guts, the Black Swordsman, as he seeks revenge against the man who plunged the world into darkness. Guts draws the Snake Lord, one of the Apostles of the God Hand, out of his castle in order to face justice. After retrieving a strange relic from the fallen baron, Guts reflects on the events that brought him to this point. In the past, the mercenary Guts found himself inducted into the Band of the Hawk by the group's charismatic leader, Griffith. The Band of the Hawk rose to even greater prominence as the hundred-year war between Midland and Tudor reached its peak. As Guts settled into his newfound role as a war hero, Griffith resolved to defy fate at any cost. Remember to sharpen your gigantic sword, reload your crossbow, and avoid animatronic beignets for today's exciting episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

It is time to go werewolf on another episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake as we continue with Soul Eater. On tonight's truncated episode we learn just what weapons Dan and Jonathan would be in Meister hands and even our witch souls. Enjoy some anime stylings of breaking out of prison, snatching some attaché cases, crashing parties, and kicking some ass. We may be running down this long hallway, but there is guaranteed some backstory. We know that you were snooping at the nearby laboratory so you better confess that you were listening to the podcast.

The coast of Egypt is finally in sight, but the battle is just getting started for Jotaro Kujo and his friends. As the first half of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders comes to a close, the group takes a detour to a small island. There, Polnareff gets a lesson in grief and greed from the genie-like Stand Judgment. Only the timely return of an old friend is enough save Polnareff and roast this dangerous new enemy. Next, the group uses a submarine to cross the Red Sea in style. Deep beneath the waves, the High Priestess Stand merges with the submarine and takes the Joe-Bros by surprise. Even if our heroes can escape into open water, the High Priestess stands ready to give them a mouthful. Episode 254: Good Movie Podcast?: Episode 07: Dogville (2003)
Sunday Mar 24, 2024
Sunday Mar 24, 2024
Mind my Gooseberry Bushes! Tonight on Good Movie Podcast? Dan and Jonathan are taking a much deserved trip to Dogville (2003). In this town is the underlying belly of seedy Americana. With a cast full of goodie goodies what happens when Nicole Kidman waltzes in? In a theatrical commentary of America who will be left standing, gnawing at the bones of humanity? Bring your chalk outlines and labeled stage directions, who is to be believed? Will Dan Ryan finally write the next great American novel? Will Jonathan resist smashing some Precious Moments figurines? The answers are both resoundingly clear, but maybe you should listen and demonstrate the tenants of stoicism?

Episode 253: Sinister Six XXXII: Gods of Egypt (2016)
Sunday Mar 17, 2024
Sunday Mar 17, 2024
Just as the sun rises and sets, another Sinister Six cycle comes to an end. Today's pick is none other than Gods of Egypt, a goofy, controversial, and extremely forgettable flick from 2016. In a (very) fictionalized version of Ancient Egypt, the god Horus is blinded and usurped by his uncle Set. A young thief named Beck steals back one of Horus's eyes back in hopes of ending Set's tyranny. In the process, Beck's lover Zaya is killed. With his sight partially restored, Horus enlists Beck's help in destroying the source of Set's power. In return, the exiled god will restore Zaya to life. In their journey across Egypt, Beck and Horus are joined by the gods Hathor and Thoth. We should also mention that some of these gods have CGI Saint Seiya armor and bejeweled organs. And Geoffrey Rush gets to fight a giant worm. Is there a moral to this story? Not really. Maybe something about lettuce? We don't know. Just be ready to place your most prized anime figure on the Scales of Anubis for today's (mid) episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake.

Anyways, tonight viewers will learn to never run from anything that is immortal and that all skeletons want is a little wine. That's right it is the tale of The Last Unicorn. Mythical creatures and bumbling wizards abound in this Jonathan childhood "classic." When a noble unicorn ventures out into a strange world in search of other like here dangers, mystery, friendship and love lurk around every corner. He was sent forty years into the future after saving Celebi in the past. Our heroes do their best to keep Celebi safe in the present day, but a new villain is hunting the Mythical Pokémon. The Iron-Masked Marauder, a particularly power-hungry member of Team Rocket, intends to capture Celebi and take over the world. After Celebi falls victim to the Marauder's corruptive influence, the life of the forest itself is threatened. Ash and Sam must work together with the Legendary Beast Suicune in order to save Celebi and stop its destructive rampage.
