Your hosts, Dan and Jonathan, have each chosen a champion to represent them in the hopes of claiming glory, fame, and primo animation. Make no mistake, we will be at each other’s throat but, if we happen to learn a thing or two along the way...what a concept. It’s Satoshi Kon vs. Mamoru Hosada. First, in the bracket is Kon’s pervasive, and dream-like look into pop idol fame, 1997’s Perfect Blue. Mima may be trying to break into acting, but she must be careful, there’s a stalker after her and she’s not sure if she’s going insane. Whatever the reason, this episode will get your heartbeat racing! "Your heart goes thump-thump-thump-thump, when you’re in love, but it pays off, pays off, when you’re loved back!"

25 Feature Length Animated Ghibli Films Stand Poised to win big at the first and last Inaugural Goro Awards. Anime Was (Not) a Mistake Cohosts Jonathan Kwiatkowski and Daniel Ryan set to preside over the award ceremony to “mixed” anticipation. Hundreds of Animated Ambassadors take the blue carpet tonight with stars in their eyes and dreams/madness in their hearts. From Soot Sprite to Shinigami, Young Girl to Buxom Witch, Cursed Pig Man to Part Fish Chicken Princess of the Sea…Thing, all wait on bated breath to see if they will be fortunate enough to take home a literal “golden boy.”   With such elucidating categories as Most Merchandisable, Supporting Sidekick, Best Lead Character, and of course the Best Ghibli film category these awards are not to be missed. So, get some Fruit Drops to snack on, put on your Unofficial Pom Poko Racoon Suit, and sit back for a night of celebration, fantastical flights, endearing stories, and most importantly Studio Ghibli.

 

On this “final” episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake we take a magical look into the Studio Ponoc, Studio Ghibli adjacent film, Mary and the Witch’s Flower. If you are a fan of magical schools, world changing blooms, and homunculi, this may be the film for you. Will this be the most incredible Studio Ghibli adjacent film yet? Or is this a chimera/amalgamation of some of the most popular Ghibli tropes in a Studio Ponoc style?  You will have to listen to find out, but hold tight to your Witch’s Flower and channel your inner strength. During the production of both The Wind Rises and The Tale of Princess Kaguya Ghibli begins the process of letting go of Miyazaki, Takahata, and Suzuki after years of hard work and beautiful animation.
