Join us for a New England Disneyland romp as we sail on mythical wings to Passamaquoddy in 1977's Pete's Dragon. Not since Bedknobs and Broomsticks has their been a stupider musical that is somehow so crucial to Jonathan's persona. From fleeing waifs, hopeful lighthouse ballads, snakeoil salesmen, and kegs of beer, the only thing seemingly lacking in this film is one dopey animated dragon. Dan certainly wishes there was more, but what does he know? Its not easy to find a sinister six pick we will all love, after all.  We all better make some room for Elliot, as he will need ample space to Sratcha-His-Assey!

Episode 324: Dragon Ball GT: The Black Star Dragon Ball Saga (Part IV)

Bonds and mustaches are tested as we continue the Baby Saga of Dragon Ball GT. Defeated and frozen in carbonite, Goku and his friends are teleported to the heart of Dr. Myuu’s sinister operation. Giru saves our heroes (thanks to an off-screen scheme with Trunks), but an even darker secret is slumbering within the lab. Baby, the ultimate machine mutant, awakens and escapes Planet M2. Back on Earth, the Z Fighter’s peaceful lives are interrupted when an empowered Baby arrives on the scene. Baby failed to defeat Goku back in space, but he’s confident that possessing the other Saiyans will give him the strength he needs to conquer the universe. Make sure you have intergalactic health insurance and a really big ice cream cone for today’s extra-metallic episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Episode 323: Cardcaptor Sakura: Part 3

On this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake Jonathan and Dan face a new slew of challenges on their continuing Cardcaptor Sakura journey. First off, we try to open a mysterious locked box, while seeing how the other half lives. Next, watch as the boys scramble, while stuck in a never-ending time loop. Dan will stop and play tug of war with the elephants and Jonathan will take the lead role in the high school production of Cinderella. How fitting? Well, if those scenarios don't hit close enough to home, imagine your humble podcast hosts getting into a fight that could shake the very foundation of their friendship. Not like that happens every week or so... Anyways, get your camcorder ready there is sure to be some embarrassing footage the raccoons can view in the private editing room later.

Episode 322: Dragon Ball GT: The Black Star Dragon Ball Saga (Part III)

Anime Was (Not) A Mistake returns once more for some zany space adventures with Dragon Ball GT. After growing as friends Goku, Trunks, and Pan are seemingly betrayed by their robotic ally Giru. On a strange cybernetic planet our party is divided and set to be test subjects in both General Rildo and Doctor Myuu's sick, scientific studies. Pan must infiltrate this base of operations in order to save her crew and reclaim the Dragon Balls. However, with all of their combat on display for the transforming Sigma Force, how can mere mortals hope to fight against the progress of technology? Jonathan and Dan will have to recombine and transform in order to stand a chance in the wake of this raising power.

With Sakura still adapting to her world-saving title, she must also come to terms with love, loss, and maybe even a rival. From ghostly visages in the woods, to a deadly sword brooch, this batch of episodes crash louder than a peal of thunder. I hope you are all wearing your catsuits in order to infiltrate a museum and participate in a 100-meter dash. I would be worried, but we have both the Senor Sangria and Mayonnaise cards on our sides. We can do anything!

Episode 320: Ninja Scroll (1993)

Today, we’re taking a look at another influential anime classic with 1993’s Ninja Scroll. A wandering ninja named Kibagami Jubei must confront his past after running afoul of the Eight Devils of Kimon, a group of monstrously powerful ninjas led by Himuro Gemma. Jubei is joined by Kagero, a kunoichi of the Mochizuki clan, and an elderly Tokugawa spy named Dakuan. Our heroes must face the Eight Devils and their deadly techniques one by one. All the while, Jubei wonders how Gemma has seemingly returned from the dead after their fatal encounter years earlier. Remember to strategize with your bees, watch out for snakes, a toss around a few rice balls for today’s legendary episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Episode 318: Sinister Six XLIV: Cartels (2023)

Cartels (2017) When Sinister Six goes sideways, there’s only one man we can call: [check script for name] 2017’s Cartels (aka Killing Salazar) kind-of stars Steven Seagal as Special Agent Harrison, who is interrogating U.S. Marshal Jensen about a botched mission. Jensen and his team had been assigned to collect the body of an assassinated crime lord, Salazar, who ends being very much alive. His team is then directed to guard Salazar at a hotel, because HOTELS CAN BE ANYTHING, and that’s where the rest of the movie takes place. There’s also a rat somewhere in the mix, or a dog, or a shark. We don’t really know. Anyway, make sure that you order some pierogis, buy some dress shields, and enjoy the continental breakfast offered here at Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Episode 316: Patlabor: The Movie (1989)

Patlabor: The Movie We (finally) return to the far-off future of 1998 to check on Patlabor pilot Noa Izumi and the rest of the Special Vehicles Division’s Unit 2. Thanks to advancements in Labor technology, Project Babylon is now underway. The project involves building a series of artificial islands in Tokyo Bay, all centered around a massive control tower known as the Ark. After the mastermind behind Project Babylon mysteriously dies, Labors start going berserk and rampaging. Asuma, Noa, Gotoh, and the other members of Unit 2 must race against time to solve this crisis before an even greater disaster makes landfall. Remember to update your operating system, plant some tomatoes, and feed those ravens for today’s towering episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!
