Episode 106: Patlabor: The Early Days
Sunday Mar 21, 2021
Sunday Mar 21, 2021
On today's episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake, we'll be taking a look at the 1988 OVA series that started the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise. In the distant future of 1998, the rise of giant construction robots known as "labors" has predictably caused a spike in giant robot-related crimes. Special police units have been created to combat this crimewave using Patrol Labors, or Patlabors, of their own. This classic anime focuses on the exploits of the Special Vehicles Division's Unit 2. They may not be the best that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police has to offer, but they've won our hearts nonetheless. We hope you'll join us as we delve into Patlabor: The Early Days; a cyberpunk experience that doesn't require a day-one patch.

Watch your hands on today's Anime Was (Not) A Mistake, you might get a paper cut! On the agenda tonight is a classic anime OVA in Read or Die (2001). Keep a stiff upper lip, as the British Library enlists Jonathan and Dan to destroy the "I-Jin' and protect the world's greatest literature. The only "Ode to Joy" that you will want to hear is this humble podcast's tribute to a classic anime, reintroduced. Do you like this bookmark? It's awful cute...

Episode 104 - AWNAM: Sinister Six II: Spookies (1985)
Sunday Mar 07, 2021
Sunday Mar 07, 2021
Our first Sinister Six adventure comes to end (along with all of our credibility) with a viewing of the 1985 cult classic Spookies. This horror "film" focuses on an evil magician stealing the souls of unsuspecting victims in order to resurrect his dead bride. In an unrelated movie, several unlikable partygoers wander into the magician's abandoned mansion to have some fun. An Ouija spells doom for these folks, as one of them becomes possessed and intent on murdering the others. To that end, she (or maybe the magician?) summons the titular "Spookies" to dispatch her friends. These rare Muppets have a thirst for blood and a flair for the dramatic. There's also zombies, I guess. Will the partygoers be able to escape this terrifying abode? No, but you should still listen along with us anyway.

Episode 103 - AWNAM: Sinister Six I: Popeye (1980)
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
Something sinister this way comes to Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! Inspired by the love of bad movies…and hate of one another, Dan and Jon unwittingly introduce a new series on the podcast. The premise: Six mystery movies, ranging from bad to awful, are chosen at random and there’s no escape for our dim-witted hosts. Have they finally bitten off more than they can chew? Will they find salvation? Ecstasy? Or else, will they be consumed by the “sheer shlock” that is The Sinister Six? For the first episode, boy do we have a sinister shipwreck for you. We are off to Sweethaven and not even a fresh can of spinach can keep up our strength up! Jonathan is doing his best Olive Oyl impression hoping that Dan will put down the Catsup and become Popeye! Toot-Toot!

Sunday Feb 21, 2021
Our 100th Episode Pokémon spectacular comes to a close with Pokémon 3: The Movie: Spell of the Unown. After her father disappears, a young girl named Molly is bewitched by the mysterious Unown. Molly's wish to see her father again is granted in the form of the legendary Pokémon Entei (as voiced by Dan Green, of course). The surrounding area is engulfed in a crystalline structure through the power of Molly's imagination. To complete the girl's new family, Entei kidnaps Delia Ketchum and brings her to the Crystal Tower. Ash and his friends set out to rescue Delia and unravel the mysterious of the Unown. Charizard also comes back, as does Marge Simpson for some reason. We hope you'll join us for this proto-WandaVision adventure in the world of Pokémon.

Episode 101: Pokémon: The Movie 2000
Sunday Feb 14, 2021
Sunday Feb 14, 2021
Putting aside our fears of Y2K, our humble little podcast embarks on another Pokémon adventure. This time we're focusing on Pokemon the Movie 2000: The Power of One. A greedy collector named Lawrence III has disturbed the balance of nature by attempting to capture the Legendary Birds. According to an ancient prophecy, only Lugia, the Guardian of the Seas, can hope quell the three warring titans. Lugia will need the help of the Chosen One to accomplish this task, and Ash Ketchum appears to be the only hero available. Ash journeys across the Shamouti Islands to secure three treasures and tame the Beast of the Sea. Our own Legendary Trio of hosts are happy to guide you through this island adventure, so we hope you'll join for a semi-healthy debate about which bird reigns supreme.
