Our "Summer of Cyborg" event continues as the 00 Cyborgs encounter old friends and confront new enemies (sometimes, they are one in the same...) First, we delve into 004's backstory and see how it colors his perspective on the ongoing Black Ghost conflict. Next, 009 returns to his old neighborhood while searching for a kidnapped Dr. Kozumi. Things have changed in Tokyo, however, and the 00 Cyborg are forced to face their toughest opponent yet. Finally, something happens involving a giant octopus. We hope you'll join us as our nostalgic look at Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier moves forward.

Tuesday Jun 08, 2021
Tuesday Jun 08, 2021
Anime Was (Not) A Mistake is starting a cybernetic summer celebration with cohosts Dan and Jonathan’s retrospective on a beloved 2002 anime. Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier. In this Summer of Cyborg strap in as we devote the next few months to assembling and analyzing a series that made us into the weebs we are today. Nine mechanically engineered, superpowered cyborgs, a shadowy syndication by the name of Black Ghost and enough Shonen action you would think you were a kid, pressed to the T.V. screen watching Toonami again! Join us in the fight for justice, I mean we have to put these red uniforms to good use…

Episode 116 - AWNAM: Animasterpiece Theater: Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
Sunday May 30, 2021
Sunday May 30, 2021
Tonight to conclude Anime Was (Not) A Mistake's first Animasterpiece Theater marathon we bring comedy, nostalgia, and good old fashioned kung fu. That's right, it's a real ballroom blitz in Stephen Chow's seminal Kung Fu Hustle (2004.) Keep your lollipops close at hand and get ready to master your most latent talents. Tonight Dan and Jonathan challenge the Axe Gang, all while avoiding the Landlady's stony glare, and destructive pipes. We may know kung fu, but we're still podcast hosts.

Episode 114 - AWNAM: Animasterpiece Theater: The Handmaiden (2016)
Sunday May 16, 2021
Sunday May 16, 2021
Anime Was (Not) a Mistake continues Animasterpiece Theater with Jonathan’s final sumptuous pick. In Park Chan-wook’s 2016 romance/thriller/period drama The Handmaiden everything is not as it seems. A cunning thief waits on a Korean socialite, held cruelly under the thumb of her sadistic uncle…almost as if a pressed leaf, cemented within the pages of a heavy tome. However, one thing this intrepid robber didn’t expect was to have her own heart stolen. In a film that has more twists, turns, and sensuality than the greatest romantic novels, join us as we indulge in the melodic ringing of passionate bells.

Sunday May 09, 2021
Usually, we here at Anime Was (Not) a Mistake pride ourselves on being. “Fast, cheap, but average.” However, that is not the case today! Jonathan and Dan welcome you all to our first Asian film festival, entitled Animasterpiece Theater. For the next few weeks, we are donning our best berets and looking at some Classique Asian cinema spanning decades and our personal tastes, from our box seats. Won’t you join us? Tonight, we begin our little festival with Shin'ichirô Ueda’s cinematic, cult classic, comedy-horror One Cut of the Dead (2017). This will be sure to thrill, chill, and maybe even KILL you…from laughter. Get your prop bloody arms ready, take your union provided bathroom break, and most importantly, whatever happens, absolutely “Do not stop rolling!”

Sunday May 02, 2021

This week on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake, the Sinister Six has driven us into the farthest reaches of space (but at least it's filled with pretty colors). It's up to Stella, Akton, and the robotic sheriff Elle to find the prince and foil the Count's somewhat ineffectual plan. We hope you'll join us for an action-packed adventure filled with lasers, metal tubes, and Texas accents in 1978's Starcrash.

Episode 111 - AWNAM: Sinister Six III: Troll 2 (1990)
Sunday Apr 25, 2021
Sunday Apr 25, 2021
AWNAM returns with another Sinister Six pick. Join Jonathan and Dan as they head off to Nilbog for some country living and vegetarian snacks in Troll 2 (1990). This film is anything but predictable, we advise you to bring along your Double Decker Bologna Sandwiches, to avoid a hellish death by popcorn. There are goblins...I mean trolls around here and they have a hankering for human/plant hybrid flesh. The only way we can all survive is to refuse to eat, call upon Grandpa Seth, and whatever you do don't eat anything! No that's not an invitation to piss on hospitality...

Episode 108: Venus Wars
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
Tuesday Apr 06, 2021
It is the distant year of 2003 and Anime Was (Not) A Mistake has resorted to bike battling on Venus's treacherous terrain. In Venus Wars (1989) two Venusian continents Ishtar and Aphrodia are at ends and it is up to a ragtag group of 80s style teenagers to seize the wheels of oppression, through burning rubber. Mount your one wheeled monocycle, race through the abandoned mall, and hold your camcorder up high! This action packed race is only for thrill seekers. If you are feint of heart, you best return to Earth...I think I hear an Octopus tank approaching.
