Episode 306: Wicked (2024)
Sunday Mar 16, 2025
Sunday Mar 16, 2025
Good News! In a most scandalosious turn of events, that still sticks to the vague principals of magical girls and anime, our humble little podcast is heading down the yellow brick road with Wicked: Part One (2024). Although our intrepid hosts are well versed in the magic of weebdom, we needed another more attuned to the art of showtunes able to decipher The Grimmerie. That's right fellow Ozians, Gabe Rivera is here, descending in a steampunk bubble to set the record straight. While this is happening Dan is channeling his emotions in the hopes that one day he can fly, all of course under Jonathan's totally not menacing and manipilutidiness madness... Topics discussed within are which type of Elphaba and Galinda watch of our cohosts are. A deep dive into the lore of Gregory Maguire's novels. And the introduction of the ethereal being that is Dulcibear. Something has changed within us and Anime Was (Not) A Mistake will never be the same. OOOOOOOH AH AAAAAAA AHA AAAAAAAA AHAAAAAAA!

Episode 305: Delicious in Dungeon Part V X Toriko X ONE PIECE!?
Sunday Mar 09, 2025
Sunday Mar 09, 2025
The dice have stopped rolling, but Anime Was (Not) A Mistake has more dungeons and delicacies to explore. Immediately back by popular demand, Delicious in Dungeon resumes with Laios and his friends searching for an exit. A tense meeting with the warrior Shuro forces the party to reevaluate their ultimate goal. Falin has been transformed into a terrifying monster by the Mad Mage, and Laios cannot risk the Island Lord going after her. Defeating the Mad Mage himself may be the only option that remains, but are our heroes really the best party for the job? Continuing the trend of pairing Delicious in Dungeon with a special side dish, we’ll briefly step into the colorful (and flavorful) world of Toriko. While the Gourmet Hunter Toriko is beefy enough on his own…we advise leaving room for a THIRD course of shonen action. Please make sure that your Barbecue Pig keeps its cool during today’s sweet, spicy, and salty installment of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Could a knight forgo the innocence of others in order to save his charged sovereign? Will a princess of crows discover who she truly is? And last, but certainly not least, can a duck prove her love without the use of words? Come dance with us and find out!

Episode 303: Princess Tutu: Part 1
Sunday Feb 23, 2025
Sunday Feb 23, 2025
Once upon a time...there was an anime podcast (Anime Was Not A Mistake) with two cohosts. One of them. A shonen fan through and through, the other, a man of taste not afraid to embrace the beauty of all that was maho shojo. "I know!" said the man with taste. "I'll introduce my rival to the classic magical girl anime Princess Tutu. Once I do that, he's bound to see the error of his ways." In a series devoted to both ballet and fairytales we are introduced to our heroine Duck, who is literally a duck, turned girl, turned into Princess Tutu. When given the quest to restore a storybook prince's heart shards lessons on love, emotion, and the ever-changing hands of fate and destiny are presented through dance and classical music. Suddenly as the man with taste cackled gleefully over his plan the shonen fan entered. "Jonathan, what are you doing in there? Some of us have got to use the bathroom!" "Nothing! Nothing at all!" screamed the man with taste, as the toilet flushed...

Episode 301: Delicious in Dungeon X Record of Lodoss War: Part IV
Sunday Feb 09, 2025
Sunday Feb 09, 2025
Fated battles await in today’s exciting installment of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake: Weebs & Wyrms! First, Dungeon Meshi reaches its halfway point as the party finally faces the infamous Red Dragon. The battle pushes Laios and his friends to their limits, and a grim discovery afterward proves hard to swallow. Marcille may have a solution in the form of ancient dark magic, but the dungeon (and its master) won’t make things easy. In Record of Lodoss War, King Fahn and Emperor Beld finally face one another on the battlefield. However, their duel ends with both rulers dead after Karla the Grey Witch intervenes to sow chaos. Certain that Lodoss will never know peace with Karla controlling things, Parn and his party go to confront the witch directly. Sacrifices will be made, but the stability of Lodoss is far from guaranteed. Dragons rise and dragons fall on today’s flame-grilled episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Episode 300: Sinister Six XXXX Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Sunday Feb 02, 2025
Sunday Feb 02, 2025
Spectacular! Spectacular! A Sinister Selection? It's in the vernacular! Anime Was (Not) A Mistake pulls back the red curtain and tunes the orchestra to present a 40th sinister film celebration! With plenty of returning actors and a director to this humble podcast we explore the themes of freedom, beauty, truth, and love with Baz Luhrmann's seminal Moulin Rouge! (2001). In this Parisian, jukebox musical, toy will encounter decadence, tropes, and many compilations that would make the cast of Glee blush. When the bright eyed Christian (Ewan McGregor) wanders into the bordello of sin that is the Moulin Rouge and falls in love with the star act, The Sparkling Diamond, Satine (Nicole Kidman) a passionate, maddening, romance begins. You will certainly feel as if you are on an absinthe trip...singing moon included. But in the end should someone die? Perhaps it will be one of your co-hosts? Why are we watching this? Simply, because we can can-can!

Episode 299: Sinister Six XXXIX Alien Private Eye (1999)
Sunday Jan 26, 2025
Sunday Jan 26, 2025
A new Sinister Selection crash-lands on the scene and vows to dispense cosmic justice…just very slowly and on a budget. In 1987’s Alien Private Eye, Earth is threatened by an odd combination of narcotics and nuclear weapons. Our only hope is Lemro, a super-cool alien who lives among us as a private detective. Aided by a mysterious woman and a pair of rival space cops, Lemro searches for the two halves of a powerful alien artifact. One half is currently in the possession of the villainous Kilgore, who’s using it manufacturer a potent (and very confusing) drug called “soma.” We’re not sure how Lemro intends to solve this case, but it’ll definitely involve dancing, fighting, and a Nintendo Power Glove. Find the windiest spot in your apartment, get plenty of refreshments for your henchmen, and listen to today’s out-of-this-world episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! (Warning: It’s only safe to listen to this episode anywhere from 5 to 99 times.)

Sunday Jan 19, 2025
Sunday Jan 19, 2025
All voyages must come to an end, and tonight on Anime Was (Not) A Mistake we take the next steps into the future with the Season 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Frieren, Fern, and the rest of the intrepid mages continue on their path towards first class magedom. What lies before them is a labyrinth filled to the brim with unfeeling clones and even worse than that a one-on-one interview with Serie herself. Frieren will need to rely on all her spell craft, knowledge and maybe even the friends she has made along the way to achieve what she sets out to do. I would say a long, heartfelt goodbye, but it would be embarrassing when we meet again.
