Episode 219: Good Movie Podcast?: Episode 01: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Sunday Jul 23, 2023
Sunday Jul 23, 2023
Anime Was (Not) A Mistake is proud to present a more beautiful alternative to the Sinister Six. For the inaugural episode of Good Movie Podcast?, we'll be taking a look at 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Directed by Steven Spielberg, this legendary movie kickstarted the Indiana Jones franchise. While this story needs no introduction, the film focuses on an adventurer/archeologist racing against the Nazis to secure the fabled Ark of the Covenant. The movie speaks for itself, but (if you'll indulge us) we'll do our best to banter about it for a bit. There's no better time (or movie) to start this subseries focusing on our favorite films. Grab your hat, a whip, and a big bottle of Perrier for this exciting first installment of Good Movie Podcast! (The Drawing Board forgot his passport, so that's why he doesn't make an appearance.)

Sunday Jun 25, 2023
Our podcast returns to the arcade to look at two TV specials based on the Fatal Fury fighting game series. Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolves introduces us to brothers Terry and Andy Bogard. After their father is murdered by crime lord Geese Howard, the brothers vow to become great martial artists. Ten years later, the brothers reunite and (along with their new friend Joe Higashi) enter Howard's own "King of Fighters" tournament. While the brother have come a long way, even their new skills may not be enough to stop Geese Howard. Instead, the key to victory may be a dangerous technique that Terry will have to master on the fly. In Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle, Terry suffers a brutal defeat at the hands of Wolfgang Strauser. Descended from an ancient line of warriors, Strauser longs to face an opponent who can truly challenge him. Deeply shaken by his fight with Strauser, Terry will have to do some soul-searching before he can step into the ring again. For this globe-trotting adventure, Terry, Andy, and Joe are joined by a cast of new characters from the second Fatal Fury game. Get your Neo Geo out of storage, find a good pair of gloves, and maybe pour yourself a few glasses of whiskey for today's chi-infused episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!

Our latest Animasterpiece begins with Susuke Kaneko's Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Originally released in 2001, this film is the 25th entry in the Godzilla franchise overall and the third feature in the character's Millennium era. Godzilla returns for the first time since 1954, now possessed and empowered by restless spirits. This villainous version of Godzilla is ready to destroy Japan unimpeded. Yuri Tachibana is an intrepid young reporter who is researching the "Guardian Monsters", a trio of legendary kaiju who might be able to stop the King of the Monsters. The Guardian Monsters likely needed a bit more time to grow, unfortunately. Admiral Taizo Tachibana, Yuri's father, is determined to make his colleagues (both young and old) come to their senses and stage a proper defense against Godzilla. The stage is set for an explosive final confrontation in Tokyo. Just as Godzilla combines supernatural and manmade power, our heroes will have to employ a similar strategy. We advise you to secure your stones, find a quality bike, and check your photos for spooky ghosts on today's exciting episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake!
